Questions & answers

Make sense of banking access.

Quick answers about banking deserts, exposure, rankings, and what this edition covers.

What is a banking desert?

A place classified at census-tract level as having limited physical banking access. This publication uses the classifications described in its supplied NDS reports.

Does this mean residents do not have bank accounts?

No. Geographic exposure does not establish whether a person has a bank account or uses online banking.

Does the Federal Reserve classify ZIP codes?

The source classifications are tract-based. NDS derives ZIP exposure through geographic allocation.

Why can several ZIPs have rank #1?

They share a tied rank in the source snapshot. The selected national table preserves those ties and the supplied percentile.

Is the largest exposed population also the highest exposure percentage?

Not necessarily. A large community can have many exposed residents but a modest exposed share. Read counts and percentages together.

Can I search every ZIP code here?

This edition includes selected ranking rows and a detailed ZIP 78260 report. Table filters search only the records shown on that page. Other ZIP profiles are not included.

How current are these data?

The underlying observation year was not supplied in the report package. The website release date is not the data observation date.

Can I download the tables?

Yes. Each table has CSV and JSON links for its displayed rows. Downloads retain the published text values and report coverage notes.

How can I advertise or sponsor the publication?

All advertising, placement, and sponsorship inquiries go through AdvertisingAgency.us.
